Week one

My Diorama Mind Map

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

Below is the finished version of my diorama mind map. I have decided that my diorama will have a Utopian theme that features woodland animals; trees; destroyed, overgrown buildings and an autumn colour. The art style will be a low poly one as I like the look of this art style and I think it will fit well with my diorama.

Week three

In order to work out what size I want my models to be in comparison with my environment, I had to make a block out of my diorama. This involved editing a cube in order to act as a placeholder for every object within my diorama. After completing the block out of my diorama, I conducted some lighting tests to try and work out what colour I wanted my lighting to be and what direction it’s coming from.

After conducting these lighting tests I have decided to go with a dusk light setting in order to give the diorama more of an autumn theme. After knowing roughly what size I wanted my objects to be, I created an asset table which allowed me to estimate the poly count and texture size of my finished models.

Week two

Diorama sketches

In week 2 I completed some sketches for my diorama which includes 6 of the models I will be modelling in 3DS Max and a rough design of my diorama environment. The models I decided to sketch were; a fox; an owl; a tree; a rock; a fish and a snake.

After completing both my model sketches and environment sketches, I then worked on completing three paint overs selected from the models I previously drew. I decided to complete paint overs of the fox, fish and tree that I sketched.

The last thing I needed to complete for this week was my level map. This is a top down view of what I want my Diorama to look like and where all the positions of my models will be.
